Quality of our upholstery fabrics

With over 300 fabrics on offer, you are spoilt for choice when you re-upholster your furniture with Plumbs. But we also pay very close attention to fabric quality. Quality of fabric is given the highest level of priority at Plumbs. We work to rigorous standards with all our suppliers.

Our key fabric quality standards are:

• Key performance criteria include colourfastness to light and washing, abrasion resistance and dimensional change in washing and drying. We are proud to say that we only use fabrics rated at performance level A as stated in BS EN14465: 2003 (E).
• We thouroughly test all our fabrics at a UK test house.
• All of our fabrics meet the Furniture and Furnishings (Fire Safety) Regulations 1988. This means that all our fabrics will either be backcoated or pyrovatexed.
• We also ensure colour matching as close as is possible from batch to batch. We ensure that colour differences are E1.4 or less.

After placing an order we will send you a fabric sample from your actual roll of fabric. We want to make sure you’re happy with your choice, and the shade and pattern is just right. We’ll even call you to double check and make sure.

Plumbs keep a regular (often daily) contact with all the well known and mainly British suppliers. Names such as Sanderson, Wilman, Crowson, Swaffer, Edinburgh Weavers and Fryetts are all companies who, like Plumbs, are built on a long history and sound footing.
