A club chair is described as a chair with a low back and arms, which is traditionally upholstered in leather, however fabric is now regularly used. Club chairs can come with or without a matching ottoman.

The name, ‘Club Chair’, originates from gentlemen's clubs in nineteenth century England, where it was the chair of choice for the men to relax with a drink and perhaps a cigar. Many Victorian leather club chairs were button-backed, companion pieces to Chesterfield sofas (also a nineteenth century design).

Club style furniture is an old style that has kept its traditions but there are now many modern variations, which include variations, include swivel and reclining designs.
