Step 1 – The arm of this beautiful old sofa has been removed for repair. A new rail is being made.

Step 2 – The back in the process of being stripped down. All the old fabric and stuffings are removed. Then an assessment can be made to see which parts need to be replaced.

Step 3 – More stripping down, this time on the outside arm. Two frame repairs can be seen on the front and back leg. These are the most common ares needing repair as they are stress points. When people sit down they don’t realise they are pushing the arms out.

Step 4 – With all the fabric removed the reupholsterer has removed and refitted all the original coil springs. They are hand sewn to the hessian top cover.

Step 5 – Bottom view shows strengthening of the original webbing with new jute web support. All the old tack holes show that this sofa has been reupholstered a few times.

Step 6 – All the new covers are cut and sewn, placed on the job ready to be reupholstered.

Step 7 – With all the top covers pieces upholstered the job is nearing completion. The scroll arm fronts are made separately.

Step 8 – The scrolls are fitted. Attention to detail means that the spacing and number of pleats are matched both ends of the sofa to be identical. It is the small things that make all the difference to the finished job.

Step 9 – The finished job is ready to be packed for delivery.
