Antique Wooden Plum Suite
Step 1 – The green velvet used in the original construction of this suite is very hardwearing, but time sadly has started to get the better of it.
Step 2 – There is some light fading to the back and general wear to the arms and seat cushions. The frame however still looks fabulous.
Step 3 – Once into the workshop, we can see that the seat cushions are also looking a bit flat. This is very common, which is why Plumbs replace seat cushion inners free of charge as a matter of course.
Step 4 – The challenges for the reupholsterer on this piece are the deep buttoned back, pleats around the arm, and the extensive studding detail seen here.
Step 5 – Having stripped away all the old fabric, stuffings and springs, the frame can now be checked and any repairs made as necessary.
Step 6 – Fascinating to see the traditional materials used to reupholster this furniture when it was first made.
Step 7 – Preparing the size of arm sections. This allows the sewers to progress while reupholstering is under way.
Step 8 – Not much left of this fine old chair. Before long however it look like new!
Step 9 – Having completely rebuilt the arm from the frame up, the reupholsterer is concentrating on those all important pleats.
Step 10 – Many painstaking hours of work has gone into geting a single chair to this stage. Note how all the deep buttoning is perfectly aligned and the resulting diamond shapes are of equal size.
Step 11 – The studding work is actually quite quick. These days it is more of a decorative feature. It still looks so effective on this type of furniture.
Step 12 – This sofa back can only have been reupholstered through the patient efforts of someone with very many years dedicated experience.
Step 13 – The studding work is the moment when the finished look is finally revealed.
Step 14 – Finally delivered safley back home, this 3 piece suite looks truly fabulous. A great achievement for the Plumbs reupholsterer.
Antique Wooden Plum Suite
Mrs. Turner of Tarleton decided to reupholster this fabulous sofa and two chairs. More antique in style than actual antique, this suite is a real showcase for the art of reupholstery.
I am just writing to say how pleased and satisfied I am with my reupholstered suite. Your craftsman have done a great job of restoring my furniture into a 'new' looking suite.
